Last year, she penned a pro-COVID vaccination opinion column for CNN.com, as well as a “Tiny Love Story” that was published in the New York Times. Since 2019, Olson has worked as the assistant director for policy research at UT’s Institute for Urban Policy Research and Analysis, which uses data to develop policies that strengthen Black communities and combat racism.

She is preceded in death by her sons James David Greer and Jeffrey Harold Greer, father John Hutchins, mother Catherine (Waters) Hutchins, brother John (Jack) Hutchins, and sister Mary Lou Mantell.A champion for social justice, Annika is always fighting for a better world. Dorothy is survived by her children: John Greer, Thomas Greer (spouse Peggy), and Kristine Mendoza (spouse Roberto), grandchildren: Travis Greer (spouse April), Jessica Greer, Jacob Greer, Mikaela Keel (spouse Frank), Tico Mendoza, Monica Mendoza, and Evan Mendoza, and six great grandchildren: Michael and Brandon Greer, Zachary and Zane Greer, and Madison and Owen Greer. With her cute laugh, she would always make her friends and family smile.

She was known for being kind, silly, generous, and always caring for others. She also really enjoyed eating desserts, specifically ice cream or anything with peaches. Also known as “Dot” by some of her friends, Dorothy loved reading, singing hymns, bowling, playing cards, watching Jeopardy and the Baltimore Orioles. She was also a member of Baldwin Memorial United Methodist Church. She later had an extensive career working for Anne Arundel County Board of Education from 1976-1996, where she worked as a secretary and made lifelong friends. She graduated from Arundel Senior High School and went on to work at Fort George G. Naval Academy Dairy Farm in Gambrills, where her dad was the Commander. She had a sister Mary Lou and a brother Jack. Dorothy was born on April 13, 1931, to John Hutchins and Catherine (Waters) Hutchins. Gambrills, Marylandĭorothy Jean Greer of Gambrills, Maryland died peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2022.
